One challenge I’ve noticed teaching language learners is the desire to directly translate. Depending on the learner’s level, this can result in a laborious effort to force out some semblance of communication. Then, with hope, the speaker looks expectantly at the listener who replies, “Huh??”

And then the speaker has to start over again with a listener who may not be patient and kind enough to wait.

Under the umbrella of improving English language skills, Hitoshi gives tips on how to speak simply and clearly.
